Serving Transgender Patients - Lessons for Healthcare Professionals
It is not uncommon for transgender patients to avoid sharing information about their identity and medical history with health care professionals, due to past negative experiences within health care settings. Professionals who show sensitivity to the topic and express care about health record documentation can increase a transgender patient’s trust. During this 2 hour seminar, participants will learn how to create a welcoming environment and best meet the needs of transgender patients.
Ryan Sallans is a renowned transgender speaker and author specializing in health care, campus inclusion and workplace issues impacting the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer/Questioning (LGBTQ) community. Ryan will share information about patient encounters and experiences within health care settings and offer lessons on how health care professionals can be more inclusive, respectful, and responsive to the needs of transgender patients.
Since 2005, Ryan has been inspiring individuals around the world through the programming that he offers. His work as a speaker is rooted in storytelling and branches out to interlace personal stories with research and data focused on creating inclusive environments for LGBTQ individuals, employees and patients.
